In 1928, a new series started called Oswald The Lucky Rabbit. Oswald was drawn by Ub Iwerks and was owned by NBC Universal. They lost the right to Oswald over a disagreement and needed a new character. This created Mickey Mouse, drawn by Walt Disney, and first appeared in an animated short titled Plane Crazy. As you can see, Mickey was largely based on Oswald, in fact they were both voiced by the same person, Walt himself. Ub stayed with Disney and went on to help draw and animate Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs after several of his main animators had left.
